Problem
There is a potential problem with the Commence 2.1 installer when the /NAME= parameter is used. This article applies to workgroup users who are running multiple Commence servers on a single PC.
Cause
If the user has removed the default [COMMENCE] section and renamed it to use the /NAME= parameter, the installer will be forced to do a NEW install instead of a re-install which preserves settings. This can cause the admin data files in the Wgfiles folder to be overwritten.
Solution
Prior to upgrading your installation, copy the [<name>] section to a [COMMENCE] section so that the required sections are present.
The /Name command line option is no longer supported in current versions of Commence.
Workaround
There is no way for the installer to 'guess' what name is being used for the Commence server. Several possible workarounds are being considered by development. One option would require the user to invoke the installer with a /NAME= command line option. Another option is for the installer could read the .GRP files and find any instances of COMMENCE.EXE. Whaddya think?
The recommended practice is for servers/clients on the same database to use /DATABASE= instead. That way a single COMMENCE.INI is shared by both servers.
