Q10005 - INFO: What command line options are available in Commence?

Problem
What are all the supported command line options in Commence and how are they used?

Cause
N/A

Solution
Below is the list of command line options that can be added to the target line of the Commence shortcut.

/Database=Database Path
This option allows you to select the active database using its path.    In order to obtain the path to a particular database, you would go to the Open/Manage Database menu, select a database, and click on the Edit button.

For example, edit the Commence shortcut and set the target to:

"C:\program files\Commence RM Workgroup\commence.exe" /Database=C:\program files\Commence RM Workgroup\Data

/Noagents
This option will disable agent processing while the Commence program is running.  The active/inactive status of the agents themselves is not altered when this option is used.

NOTE: Use of this option applies to all databases opened within that session.  It is recommended that you rename the Commence icon to reflect this feature.

/Noviews
This option will prevent views from opening automatically when Commence starts.

NOTE:  Commence allows you to save your desktop settings on exit; any open views on the desktop and their arrangement on the desktop will be saved and reopened on startup.  Specifying Noviews bypasses this feature and prevents any views from being displayed. Before exiting Commence, be sure to disable the Save Desktop on Exit setting if you wish to preserve your prior view arrangement.

/Prompt
This option will allow you to select a database when Commence starts.  Instead of using the last active database, you many select a new one each time you run Commence.

/Quiet
This option prevents Commence from displaying a message that another copy of Commence is currently running.

Note: Once Commence is running, you can open another instance of Commence to view a different database. You will be notified that Commence is already running and asked to confirm that you wish to start another copy.  The /quiet option will suppress that notification and silently load any subsequent instances of Commence.

/Reindex
This option will create new indexes for the data in your Commence database.  This option is only necessary if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Duplicate items that you did not create appear in the database.
  • A deleted item reappears in a view the next time the view is opened.  Sometimes the name of the item will contain strange characters.
  • When deleting duplicate items, deleting one item causes all of the duplicates to be deleted.
  • A newly added item does not appear in the active view, and there is no filter on the view.
  • Accessing a particular category causes a General Protection fault or Applications error.
  • Deleting a large number of items from a category causes a General Protection Fault or Application error.
  • The item count for a view is incorrect, and there is no filter on the view.

/TRACE

This option will write more information in the Active.log file.  Commence stores information about each session in this file. Using the /trace option will generate more verbose messages that Technical Support can use to determine if there are any problems.
