Problem
While attempting to generate a letter, Word returns the following message:
Ambiguous Name Detected: TmpDDE
Cause
TmpDDE is a macro module that Word creates to perform DDE. This macro is created in the NORMAL.DOT. To resolve, open normal.dot in Word, and select Tools-Macro-Macros. Highlight TmpDDE and delete it. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q174966 for additional information.
Solution
Using Windows Explorer, locate the NORMAL.DOT file (not the ~ormal.dot). If there is more than one copy of NORMAL.DOT, repeat the following steps for each copy of that file.
- Select File-Open in Word to open the NORMAL.DOT file (do not simply double-click on the file in Windows Explorer.)
- Select Tools-Macro-Macros.
- Highlight the macro that has the word TmpDDE in its name (for example, Normal.TmpDDE.MAIN) and click on the Delete button.
- Select File-Save All, then File-Exit to close Word.
