Summary
Sometimes a client database will be used to re-establish a Commence workgroup. The following procedure explains how to promote a client database to a shared database. From this new shared database, new clients can be enrolled, thus recreating the workgroup.
More Information
- Locate the data directory by clicking on File-Open/Manage Database-Edit. Take note of the path. Create a backup of the database, then close Commence.
- Go to the data directory and open the text file called DATA.INI. Find the [Workgroup] section and delete this entire section. Save the file.
- Now be careful to delete only the following files from the data directory:
- synclog.pim
- thid.pim
- objects.piw
- links.piw
- all obj?????.dtw files
- Open Commence and create a new backup of this stand-alone database.
- Go to the Commence server and launch Commence.
- Select File - Open/Manage Database and Add a new database.
- Restore this new database using the backup file created in Step 4. When complete, close Commence.
- Launch ComAdmin. The default username is Admin. There is no password by default. Contact Technical Support if you have lost the password or are unable to login.
- Once in ComAdmin, select Databases. Add a new shared database and point the path to the database directory created in Step 5.
- When prompted to make the database shared, reply Yes. If prompted to add an entry for the database to Commence, reply NO.
- In ComAdmin, select Users. Enter a brief username for each employee who will have access to Commence. A password can be setup for each user as needed.
- Exit ComAdmin.
- Launch Commence and open the new database.
Commence will go through an initialization process to make the database shared. From this point users can be enrolled. Refer to the Commence Server Installation and Administration Guide for specific information on enrolling client databases.
