Problem
Commence Workgroup does not synchronize new data records. However, the modification of existing records continues to synchronize throughout the workgroup. This also applies to standalone users who use sync link to synchronize data records to a remote database.
Cause
The addition of new records is incorrectly written to the Commence synchronization transaction log (synclog.pim).
Status
The resolution to the issue regarding synchronization involves two components:
* Restarting the synchronization process
* The resynchronization of data from the date and time the problem occurred
A service pack to address both issues is now available via the Commence web site under the customer advisory section. Shared and local data added after March 19, 2006 will be resynchronized to the server using the data resynchronization utility provided in the RM(d) SP1 release.
Workaround
Workgroup Sync
For users in a workgroup, if you have not yet applied the RM(d) service pack it is recommended that you configure all Commence clients to add shared items locally. This is done by setting the local item Preference.
Setting the local item preference
For Commence Designer Edition, select Customize -> Preferences -> Database. Remove the checkmark for the 'set shared checkbox by default' option
For Commence Application Suite, select Edit -> Preferences -> Database. Remove the checkmark for the 'set shared checkbox by default' option
Sync Link
Until the RM(d) service pack has been applied to both the base and the remote datatase, users should temporarily stop sync linking to the remote database. This will store the changes locally. After the service pack is installed you can resume the normal sync link process. If you have already attempted to sync link some new data, these items will need to be resynchronized.
Applies to
- Commence RM 3.1
- Commence RM 3.0
- Commence RM 2.1
- Commence CRM Application Suite (all versions)
