Problem
I am unable to add a new sync link out file because the Add, Edit, Delete functions are unavailable (greyed out). There is a Synchronize with Database displayed but I cannot delete it or add a new one. Any idea why?

Cause
This is as designed; a Remote database cannot create new remotes -- it can only communicate back to the Base database.

Solution
If the Base database has been lost, the data can be salvaged by converting the remote into a base. The first thing you need to do is locate the data directory by clicking on File-Open/Manage Database-Edit.  Take note of the path.  Backup your database, then close Commence. 

Go to the data directory and open the text file called DATA.INI.  Find the [Workgroup] section and delete this entire section.  Save the file. 

Now be careful to delete only the following files from the data directory.  The files you can delete are synclog.pim, thid.pim, objects.piw, links. piw, and all the obj????? with the extension of .dtw.  (The ? are place holders for the category numbers.) That should do it.  You should now have a base database and you should be able to create new sync link remotes from this database. If you have any trouble, just restore from the backup and try again.
