Q11106 - INFO: What to expect after applying the RM(d) SP1 service pack

Summary

After patching the server...

  • Commence exe will show a service pack level “(d) SP1” with version .95
  • Any unpatched clients will go into error mode when they try to sync. This safeguard is designed to store their updates safely until the proper service pack is applied. The error condition will clear automatically after rebooting Commence.

After patching the clients...

  • Newly added items will sync properly
  • Existing shared items that are copied will sync properly
  • Existing shared items that are edited will sync, but without any connection data

More Information
This service pack enables synchronization and also resyncs any data
that was added between March 20, 2006 and the date the service pack was installed.

Better Sync control

This release introduces a new command line option, /NOSYNC, that allows users to temporarily suspend workgroup synchronization. This allows you to control synchronization before you launch Commence.

  • Remote users can now create a shortcut to use Commence 'offline' while disconnected from the network.
  • Administrators can also launch Commence manually with this new option from the Start - Run menu to perform administrative tasks without sync interruptions.
  • Commence can be launched with this option from an external program, such as the Data Synchronization utility.
  • The option can be used on the server and/or clients.

Data Synchronization utility

The SP1 release includes the Data Resynchronization utility which is used to identify and resynchronize shared and local data added after March 19, 2006 that may not have synchronized with the server.
